MARINE SURVEY REPORTS

PRE-PURCHASE MARINE SURVEY

When purchasing a vessel we strongly advise  this inspection service is undertaken.  The purpose of this marine survey is to provide the buyer with the necessary information to enable an informed and balanced decision to be made regarding the vessel - and to evaluate its general condition and overall operation prior to purchase.   The report  includes a detailed breakdown of recommendations made by the marine surveyor.  This report is often useful when  negotiating specific repairs or price with the vendor as well as providing a maintenance and repair checklist after purchase.

RISK EVALUATION survey

This purpose of an Insurance Survey  is predominately to evaluate risk.  This report is generally required by an insurance underwriter prior to taking out an insurance policy, or upon renewal of an insurance policy.  It is used to determine whether or not a vessel is an acceptable risk.  The main interest is in the structural integrity and safety of the vessel .  The primary focus of this report  is on items that could lead to loss and the inspection includes areas such as hull and deck structure; hull to deck joint; bulkheads; through hull fittings; keel and fittings; mechanical installations; electrical installations; safety equipment; fire fighting equipment;  mast and rigging; steering system and navigation equipment.

The report includes a formal independent market valuation of the vessel, making it suitable for use by insurance and finance institutions alike. However it is not sufficient to make an informed decision regarding the purchase of the vessel.

VALUATION SURVEY

This purpose of a Valuation Survey is to determine the fair market value of the vessel. This  is usually performed for divorce or estate settlements, customs importation, finance matters and legal cases.

damage inspection survey

A damage inspection report assesses the extent of damage to a vessel, indicates probable cause of the damage and makes recommendations as to necessary repairs. This report is generally sourced by insurance companies, although have been proven very useful for an independent owner in the case of a disputes. Typical causes of damage include malicious damage; collision; grounding; fire, severe weather and submersion.
